Davenport Central High School's $24 million addition will not be ready in time for the 2016-17 school year.

The state-of-the-art auditorium and eight-lane swimming pool is the biggest undertaking in the history of the Davenport School District. The exterior is done, but crews are still working on the inside.

Project Leaders say the four-month delay stems from problems with the old building, which was built back in the 1920s. However, they say they're staying positive despite the unexpected setbacks.

"What's really neat is the building is something that's going to impact so many students," said Brian Hedgren, Project Manager with Russell Construction. "This is going to be one of the best auditoriums and pools in the region, if not the state of Iowa, and it's a real accomplishment for me to be part of and leading a project such as this."

The new completion date is set for February 2017.
