A 13-year-old passenger died from injuries sustained in a two-car crash in south-central Hancock County.

A 16-year-old driver in a white Chevrolet  Impala was headed southbound on County Road 900 East, just north of County Road 1800, when he lost control and started to skid, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.  The teen then crossed over into the other lane of traffic and got hit in the passenger front door by a black Chevrolet Impala driven by a 32-year-old.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016.

The 13-year-old was riding with the 16-year-old, according to police.  Both of them were injured as well as the driver from the other car; all three were airlifted to the hospital for treatment.  The 13-year-old later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators were not sure what caused the crash to happen, but they say conditions were clear and dry.
