A 13-year-old passenger died from injuries sustained in a two-car crash in south-central Hancock County.
A 16-year-old driver in a white Chevrolet Impala was headed southbound on County Road 900 East, just north of County Road 1800, when he lost control and started to skid, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police. The teen then crossed over into the other lane of traffic and got hit in the passenger front door by a black Chevrolet Impala driven by a 32-year-old.
The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016.
The 13-year-old was riding with the 16-year-old, according to police. Both of them were injured as well as the driver from the other car; all three were airlifted to the hospital for treatment. The 13-year-old later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators were not sure what caused the crash to happen, but they say conditions were clear and dry.
