Street Fest party kicks off a busy Bix weekend

A busy Bix weekend kicked off on Friday with the start of Street Fest in downtown Davenport.

A busy Bix weekend kicked off on Friday with the start of Street Fest in downtown Davenport.

Street Fest, organized by the Downtown Davenport Partnership, takes over 2nd Street between Ripley and Brady. The festival includes dozens of food stands, arts and craft vendors, and live music.

The music started before noon on Friday, with bands from the QC Rock Academy taking the main stage.

"It's always just fun. You know, you never run out of energy up there. It's amazing. That's just our second show, too," said Mason Collins, a 13-year-old performer.

This year's Street Fest also includes several new food vendors, like 'Dumpling Darling,' a Korean dumpling business from Iowa City.

"My husband's actually from Davenport, and he grew up going to Street Fest and running the Bix, so we thought it'd be fun to give it a try this year," said Lesley Triplett.

Another new attendee is Static Melt, a gourmet grilled cheese food truck. While the company is certainly looking for exposure, they're also excited to just be a part of the post-Bix celebration.

"It's awesome. I love it. Everybody runs, and then we get a little drunk," laughed Luke Powers.

Admission to Street Fest is free.

Live music goes until midnight on Friday, and the festivities start up again on Saturday morning after the race.
