MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — Officials in the southeastern Iowa town of Mount Pleasant say they expect to replace a leaky pipe that has been allowing untreated waste water into a storm sewer that leads to Saunders Branch Creek.
A city crew discovered the leak Wednesday while repairing a nearby line. The crews reported the leak to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Hawk Eye reports.
The department recommends keeping children and pets away from the creek — especially in Saunders Park — until after repairs are complete.
The city expected to replace the leaky pipe on Thursday.
