Korean War Vets celebrate Armistice Day with wreath laying ceremony

Members of the local Korean War Veterans Association held a wreath laying ceremony honoring the end of the Korean War.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — Korean War veterans gathered to remember today in history  on Wednesday, July 27.

Members of the local Korean War Veterans Association held a wreath laying ceremony honoring the end of the Korean War. Often called the "Forgotten War," speakers today say that may be changing as more people in the Quad Cities are recognizing the important role of the Rock Island Arsenal during the conflict.

"The Rock Island Arsenal had a huge role, as I mention, over 41 million pieces of equipment came out of here each year more than doubled the work force here and it was to support those soldiers who were fighting in Korea and we would not have seen the success that we did without the efforts that came from the Rock Island Arsenal," said Col. Lance Koenig, Army Sustainment Command.

Today is officially known as Armistice Day. The Armistice was the major agreement that ended the Korean War and is the longest ceasefire negotiation in history.
