Giant ‘M’ made of bike wheels goes up in Muscatine

The finish line won’t be the only thing catching RAGBRAI rider’s eyes in Muscatine.
MUSCATINE, Iowa – RAGBRAI is set to end in Muscatine Saturday,  July 30, 2016 but the finish line won’t be the only thing catching rider's eyes.

A giant 20 foot letter ‘M’ made out of bike tires went up in downtown on July 27, 2016.

RAGBRAI riders will pass it on their way into downtown along the riverfront. Organizers say the design is to show appreciation for those riding in RAGBRAI.

The design, donations and labor were all made possible by dozens of helping hands with one goal in mind.

“To make our guests feel welcome after that long ride across Iowa,” says one Muscatine man who helped put the design together.

“We love these riders for what they are doing and we want them to love us for what we are doing,” added Ky Cochran, Director of Muscatine Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The giant ‘M’ is located at Carver Corner, where Hershey Avenue turns into Mississippi Drive and Green Street and Grandview Avenue come together.

After RAGBRAI is over, the ‘M’ will be moved. Organizers do not have a set location for it yet, but say it might become permanent fixture along the Muscatine River Front.
