PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania-- The head of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, will not speak at or preside over the party's convention this week. And, on top of that, she'll resign at the end of the convention.
Party officials made the decision today amid revelations from leaked emails made public by Wiki-leaks. Some suggest the DNC, lead by Wasserman-Schultz, favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primaries.
The main complaint was over the lack of debates. This election saw significantly fewer debates, and the debates that did take place aired at off-hours.
Sanders was among those calling for Wasserman-Schultz to resign and says the leaked emails confirm what he already knew: that the DNC was behind Clinton all along.
Wasserman-Schultz talked with both President Barack Obama and Clinton before making her announcement, according to a Democratic source. She has been the Chair of the Democratic National Committee since May of 2011. Wasserman-Schultz is also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Florida since 2005.
