Hillary Clinton has tapped Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate.
Clinton supporters learned of the announcement through a text message just after 7 PM this evening.
Clinton reportedly called Kaine tonight to ask if he would serve as her running mate. He accepted the position, and the two will campaign together for the first time as an official team tomorrow in Florida.
Kaine is 58 years old, about ten years younger than Clinton. He formerly served as the governor of Virginia and is a current Senator there. Virginia is a swing state, so Clinton's running mate selection is viewed as a strategic move.
Kaine is also fluent in Spanish and has a working class background.
He's hit the campaign trail with Clinton several times over the past few months.
