A Trump staffer says she’s the person responsible for plagiarizing parts of Melania Trump’s convention speech.
That staffer is Meredith McIver, who offer to resign today, but says the Trumps did not accept it. McIver apologized in a statement, where she explained that she included the passages from Michelle Obama’s speech after listening to Melania read them to her over the phone.
McIver says she herself didn’t check Mrs. Obama’s speech.
And Donald Trump is breaking his silence on his wife’s speech with a tweet. Trump writes that the speech was “good” because it got more publicity than any speech in the “history of politics.” Trump also added that “any publicity is good publicity.”
Trump’s tweet hit social media about an hour before McIver, the Trump staffer, came forward with her apology and resignation.
