Police release names in Davenport officer-involved shooting

The names of two officers and a driver involved in a shooting on Rockingham Road have been released.

DAVENPORT, Iowa --  The names of two officers and a driver involved in a shooting on Rockingham Road have been released.

Overnight from Monday, July 18 into Tuesday, officers from the Davenport Police Department responded to a shots fired call on Ripley Street, previous reports indicate.  During the investigation, police spotted a suspect vehicle leaving the scene.  When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, at 1600 Rockingham Road, it reportedly "rammed a marked squad car," prompting police to fire their weapons.

The two officers that fired were Officer Shawn Sullivan, who has been with the department since August of 2008, and Officer Andrew Weingart, who has been with the department since December of 2015, according to a statement from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, 19-year-old Rodricco Radell Parks Jr, was later admitted to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Officer Sullivan is a Field Training Officer and was training Officer Weingart when the incident happened, according to the statement.

The shooting investigation was handed over to the Scott County Sheriff's Office and Division of Criminal Investigations.
