If you're looking for a scenic and unique day trip - go north.
Woodbine Bend Golf Course in Stockton, Illinois is a Scottish-style, links-style golf course that overlooks Jo Daviess County.
"There are no trees over 15-feet tall, but we offer a lot of fescue grass, a lot of prairie views, and a couple of Scottish-style bunkers that have a large face right in front of you," explains Sam Stoddard, General Manager. "They offer a challenge because you can't go directly straight without taking a higher loft club."
Still, the golf course is open to anybody of any age and any skill level - especially to those who love a beautiful view.
"We're known as the drift-less region," says Stoddard. "There's rolling hills and just a lot of beauty in this area."
Stoddard adds that Woodbine Bend is known for two holes - #9 and #18.
"#9 has three Scottish-style bunkers," describes Stoddard. "As you get closer to the green, the pond is on the right side - never a friend of mine. #18 is just a great panoramic view of beautiful Jo Daviess County, another Par 5 offering a creek about 80 yards short of the green and offers a good challenge."
