Officials from the two major Quad Cities health systems are thrilled people are getting more exercise through the explosive popularity of the Pokemon Go craze. But they would rather players steer clear of area hospitals and clinics in their quest to “catch ’em all.”

UnityPoint Health Trinity and Genesis Health System sent out a rare joint press release urging Pokemon players to be respectful of people trying to get well and medical personnel’s working environment.

“We know that ‘Pokemon Go’ players young and old are going to enjoy the game in places like city parks and their local neighborhoods but for the safety and privacy of our hospital guests and staff, we are encouraging them not to search for any Pokemon on hospital property or inside our facilities,” said Trent Mull, UPH Trinity’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.

Craig Cooper, spokesman for Genesis Health System, said it hasn’t been a major distraction to this point, but they are trying to stay ahead of it. Genesis may also opt out as a location for the icons.

“Genesis is pleased that Pokemon GO enthusiasts are out getting exercise in public areas but we request that for the healing, privacy and safety of our patients, players do not enter our hospitals, clinics or offices to play the game. Security and office staffs will ask players to leave,” he said.
