A Moline man accused of kidnapping his six-year-old son from his mother has been arrested in Bangkok, Thailand and will be extradited back to the United States to face charges in Rock Island County Court.
Daniel R. Glaus was located in Bangkok on July 10 and detained by the Royal Thai Police in connection with the boy's June disappearance. East Moline police have been investigating the case since June 19 when the boy's mother reported that he had not been returned to her custody by the boy's estranged father.
The East Moline Police Department Investigation Division attempted to contact Glaus, and through investigation determined that he left the United States on an international flight and was accompanied by the minor child. Police issued a warrant for Glaus's arrest on June 20 for kidnapping and filed in Rock Island County court with a $500,000 bond.
Investigators from EMPD worked with multiple federal agencies to locate the suspect in Bangkok. Glaus was detained by the Royal Thai Police on an immigration violation and is awaiting deportation to the U.S. where he will be transferred to police custody on the outstanding warrant.
The boy is in the custody of U.S. Embassy officials in Bangkok. The FBI Office of Victim Assistance and the State Department American Citizen Services made arrangements to have the child fly back to the United States with a consular officer. He arrived here on Tuesday and was reunited with his mother.
