DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Federal charges have been filed against a Davenport man accused of trying to blow up an apartment where he lived in with his girlfriend and her young son.
Prosecutors on Tuesday charged Gramann Barnes, 44, with attempting to maliciously damage or destroy the building by means of fire and explosive, the Quad-City Times reports. If convicted, Barnes faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
Authorities say Barnes and the woman argued on March 15, and he hurt her and her 2-year-old son. Police say after she took her child and left, Barnes placed paper towels inside the oven, fixed the burners on the stove to spew gas, turned on the oven and left.
The gas did not ignite before being turned off.
