Essential oils for healing is becoming mainstream

Essential oils derived from plants are being used for both physical and emotional health, a practice that’s becoming more mainstream.

A centuries-old practice is becoming mainstream therapy for thousands of women. As Natalie Wilson shows us, essential oils derived from plants are being used for both physical and emotional health.

Great grandmother Faye Fulp is about as far from a "hippie-dippy" gal as you can get, but these days you won't find her without her essential oils. For years, Faye couldn't get any shut eye after her husband died.

"I was having trouble sleeping and my doctor put me on a sleeping pill," she said.

She says she had to have a pill every single night before bed for six years, until she heard about her must-have lavender blend. She wasn't exactly open to it at first but decided to give a whirl.

Now, she says she's getting plenty of sleep drug free.

Essential oils are distilled from plants. They've been around for centuries to help with health and healing but in recent years have become far more mainstream.

In Faye's group of friends, there's a lot of "Guess what it did for me."

The ladies swear by lemon for energy and a better mood, frankincense to keep them sharp, rosemary and peppermint for thinning hair. You can breathe them in, put them on your skin, even ingest the oil if it's pure.

Debbie Hames' son had a lavender diffuser going in his hospital room in Yew York to help after surgery.

"She said, 'Only in New York City.' I said, 'Not necessarily!"

An easy way to tell if an essential oil is actually "pure" is to check to bottle, and look for the word "edible."
