Collision killed 3 in east-central Iowa, authorities say

Three people have been killed and three more have been injured in a head-on collision in east-central Iowa.

MARENGO, Iowa (AP) — Three people were killed and three more have been injured in a head-on collision in east-central Iowa.

The collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 on the south side of Marengo, just south of U.S. Highway 6. The Iowa State Patrol says a sport utility vehicle started to go onto the road shoulder and its driver overcorrected and crossed the center line, hitting an oncoming car.

A 42-year-old woman, a 14-year-old child and an 11-year-old were pronounced dead later at an Iowa City hospital. A 40-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman and a 9-year-old girl were treated for injuries.

The collision is being investigated.
