CHICAGO (AP) — An Illinois congressman wants veterans to record their experiences so that they can be shared with generations to come.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski is partnering with the Library of Congress to bring the Veterans History Project to Chicago.

The project collects, saves and shares personal stories from veterans of any conflict, including the Cold War.

In a news release Wednesday, Lipinski says veterans “helped shape the country and world we live in today.”

He says that with more veterans dying each day, it’s “imperative that the first-hand stories of their military experiences be preserved.”

Veterans may call Lipinski’s Chicago office at 773-948-6223 to schedule an interview with a staff member. It will be recorded and a copy will be given to the Library of Congress and the veteran.
