Fire at vacant Galesburg house suspected of being set on purpose

The fire was reported at a house in the 900 block of Seminary Street late on Monday, June 27, 2016, according to a statement from the City of Galesburg.

GALESBURG, Illinois -- Investigators say a  fire that started at a vacant home was intentionally set.

The fire was reported at a house in the 900 block of Seminary Street late on Monday, June 27, 2016, according to a statement from the City of Galesburg.  When firefighters got there, flames could be seen on the second floor and in the attic.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out within 30 minutes, but spent another two hours putting out hot spots and finding fires inside the walls, the statement said.  One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

"At this time, the fire appears to have been intentionally set," read the statement.

Fire investigators are working with the Galesburg Police Department to figure out what happened. If you have any information on this fire you are asked to call police at 309-345-3722.
