DAVENPORT, Iowa — Shoppers filled pick-up trucks across the Quad Cities today to help victims of domestic violence.

Household items collected Saturday, June 25, at area Hy-Vees will go to Family Resources, an organization in Davenport that provides a variety of services to help people in need. Today, those items will help women get back on their feet after domestic violence situations.

"Many times the survivors, when they're fleeing a violent situation they leave pretty quickly with nothing but the clothes on their back, so they have to start fresh, so they need everything from the basic household items to feminine hygiene products," said Ashley Schwalm, Family Resources director.

Volunteers also took monetary donations at the event, which will be used to buy more items for victims of domestic violence.
