Motorcycle ride helps homeless veterans transition into new housing

First Christian Church and the Patriot Guard riders hosted the event to help purchase cleaning supplies for formerly homeless veterans moving into new homes.

EAST MOLINE, Illinois — Dozens of motorcyclists met in East Moline today for a ride to raise money for veterans.

First Christian Church and the Patriot Guard riders hosted the event to help purchase cleaning supplies for formerly homeless veterans moving into new homes. The ministry has been operating for about a year now, but this is the first fun ride the group has ever done.

"I'm a veteran myself, and part of the oath you take when you go in is you'll always take care of your brothers and sisters and I don't fail in that," said Eric Swanson, senior ride captain.

The motorcycle group rode 95 miles with stops in LeClaire, DeWitt and Donahue along the way before enjoying a dinner, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.
