CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot with an assault weapon just a few feet outside a Catholic church.

Guglielmi says police found the teenager unresponsive with several gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on dozens of shell casings found at the scene, Guglielmi says investigators believe the teen was shot with a “high-capacity assault rifle.”

Guglielmi says the apparent use of an assault weapon was unusual for shootings in Chicago.

Police say they believe the attack was gang related.
