Exactly one year ago today, Donald Trump rode down an escalator in New York's Trump Tower to declare his candidacy for President of the United States. Political pundits were mixed on Trump joining the race. Many said he was inexperienced and controversial, especially after comments made in his announcement about Mexicans being "rapists" and "having lots of problems."

But now, one year later and after a hard fought primary, Trump is the Republican Presumptive nominee for president. Over the past year, Trump has gone from punchline to presumptive nominee. But, even so, not all Republicans are behind him.

Trump has struggled to unite his party despite being the presumptive nominee since May. Many Republicans are angry that Trump's habit of making controversial remarks has overshadowed their agenda, making their own re-election races even more difficult. Illinois Senator Mark Kirk is one of the Senators not endorsing Trump. But some Republicans, like top Congressmen Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell have been critical of Trump, yet confident he can beat Clinton.
