DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Sometimes a simple surprise can turn your day around.

For years one lady has used her love of baking to help sweeten the day for others.

"Here are some warm brownie cookies for you ladies.  Enjoy them," said Susan Voyles - who is known as the "Cookie Lady."

Just ask her friend Sindie VanKirk.

"She takes cookies or fudge or strawberry shortcake to a lot of different places," VanKirk said. " She's either the cookie lady or the jam lady but she's a terrific friend to us."

So VanKirk, wanted to thank her friend for all of her generosity.

"What is this?" asked the "Cookie Lady."

"This is a surprise," said VanKirk.

"I just gave them cookies," she replied.

" Well, how wonderful. Sue on behalf of Ascentra Credit Union we want to Pay It Forward with 300 dollars to go towards cookies.  Oh, thank you very much," VanKirk said.

"I Pay It Forward to a lot of organizations and groups.  I've done it for 30 years. I just enjoy making cookies, everybody knows," says Voyles.

Dropping off treats all over the Quad Cities, her lists includes schools, hospitals, businesses and so many more.

"Even the Police Chief Paul Sikorski, I took some things down there as a thank you for what they do and he wrote me the nicest thank you note.  I was very impressed.  And I don't need thank yous.  I do this because I enjoy doing it," Voyles said.

The cost to sweeten the day for so many isn't cheap.

"I buy tongs of stuff when its on sale," she said.

And Voyles keeps adding her stops, making people feel appreciated, one batch of cookies at a time.

"She's just the most thoughtful, considerate person and a wonderful baker too," said VanKirk.
