Moline train depot slowly coming down

Crews will tear down the entire building on Monday, June 20.

MOLINE, Illinois — After a long, hard battle to save the Moline rail depot, the building is slowly coming down.

Today, June 16, construction crews began tearing down architectural framing. The old building stands where a ramp for the New I-74 bridge will be built.

Preservationists spent years fighting to keep the building, but all deals fells through.

"When it's gone it's gone. Preservation is something you give it everything you can and try to show the importance of it. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. In this case, unfortunately, we lost. And it this was a big one," said Barbara Sandberg of the Moline Historic Preservation Committee.

Crews will tear down the entire building on Monday, June 20.
