DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man was sentenced Thursday, June 16, in federal court for possessing nearly 500 images of child porn, some of which included photos of children under 12.

Philipp Johnson, 40, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, says United States Attorney Kevin VanderSchel. Johnson is also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison term and ordered to pay $100 toward the Crime Victims Fund and $3,000 to each of the two victims.

Johnson is also ordered to forfeit all electronic devices used to possess the pornography.

An investigation began in December 2014 when the Davenport Police Department was notified that Johnson’s phone had child pornography on it. An exam of the phone showed that from October through November of that year, a user of the phone accessed 496 images containing child porn, some of which showed children under the age of 12, including a minor engaged in bestiality, according to court documents.

Johnson was confirmed to be a registered sex offender in Iowa for a 2000 conviction of third-degree sexual abuse of a girl under 13 years old.

Johnson plead guilty to possession of child pornography in January 2016.

This case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative.
