DAVENPORT, Iowa-A Quad city advocate for a ban on assault weapons says it may be time for another march on Washington to call for change in light of the deadliest shooting in U.S history.

"People are going to have to get engaged. I think we do need a march on Washington. Moms, dads, people who care enough. We have to say no more", said Cathy Bolkcom, an ordained minister and local activist.

"Mass shootings are accomplished with assault weapons. They are the gun of choice, it's kind of a no-brainer", she said.

Bolkcom was part of Quad Citians Against Gun Violence, a group started in the 90's, which has since disbanded.

"This is a real test. We have come to accept mass shootings as part of our way of life. And that is devastating, and sad. What will it take? Signing petitions on Facebook is not enough. I think people have to make a decision of not one more, we've had enough and we quite buying the arguments of the NRA", she said.

"We all pray, but it's not enough.  We have a broken system, beholden to power", she said.

Bolkcom admits losing steam after the Sandy Hook Elementary school shootings.

"As President Obama said, if we won't stand up in the face of the massacre and murder of 20 6-year-olds, is this the time now? There are things we can fix. What will it take", she said.

Bolkcom says she now belongs to a nationwide group called Moms Demand Gun Sense, and says there is also a Quad City organization called Progressive Action For The Common Good that has started meeting on a variety of issues.
