NEW ALBIN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a fisherman whose body was found underwater near a dock along the Mississippi River in northeast Iowa.
The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office identified the man Tuesday as 46-year-old Peter Englund, of New Albin.
Officers were sent to the scene around 2:20 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, to check a report about a suspicious vehicle parked at the ramp east of New Albin. No one was found then, but river searchers called in discovered the body around 4:45 p.m. It was recovered from the water.
“A preliminary investigation indicates the individual had been fishing from the dock and had fallen into the river. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a statement from the sheriff’s office.
No foul play was suspected, the statement said.
