Purported package theft

BETTENDORF, Iowa — Surveillance video appears to have captured a woman taking packages off a front porch and walking away.

The video was posted online and got a lot of attention, according to Captain Keith Kimball with the Bettendorf Police Department.   Homeowners in the 6600 block of Spring Creek drive reported the package theft around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016.  The purported theft appeared on camera just before 7 a.m. that day.

After the video surfaced on social media, Kimball said the packages- though cut open- were returned, along with most of the items.  The homeowners reported that the packages were returned just after 6 a.m. Monday.

The woman in the video has since been identified, but no arrests have been made, according to Kimball.

Kimball suggested that if you are expecting packages to be delivered while you are away, ask a trusted neighbor to collect them and hold them in a safe place for you.

Police are still working on the investigation, and will release updates as information becomes available.
