EAST MOLINE, Illinois — The 14th annual Greek Fest is taking place all weekend long despite the heat. Organizers say the food and fun activities for all ages make going outside and exploring the culture worth it.
"I love it because it's a lot of hard work by all of the people in the church and it brings everyone together one time a year for the same cause, for the church and to spread the Greek culture throughout the Quad Cities," said Sue Miller, festival organizer.
The annual festival is the largest fundraiser the church holds each year.
This year's event began Thursday, June 9 with a wine tasting of authentic Greek wine, appetizers and sweets. The festival officially begins Friday, June 10 and will celebrate with three days of dancing, music and Greek cuisine. Food includes roasted lamb, kebobs, Greek chicken and honey puffs (loukoumades).
There will also be a raffle, games and a KidZone. All events will be held rain or shine at Assumption Greek Orthodox, 4900 Kennedy Drive in East Moline.
