ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — One of the newest performance theaters in the Quad Cities has closed.

The District Theater opened nearly a year ago in the former Rock Island Argus building, but it started in 2008 as the Harrison Hilltop Theater. The Theater's board resigned in May and the theater closed midway through its ninth season.

The artistic director blamed the closing on financial hardship.
