KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Five people were killed and four were injured after a driver plowed into a group of bicycle riders in a crash in Kalamazoo County Tuesday evening, according to a report by WXMI.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department Undersheriff Paul Matyas told WXMI the crash happened just before 7 p.m. in the 5500 block of N. Westnedge Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a pickup truck, drove off after slamming into the group, according to Michigan Live. Before the crash, police were reportedly getting calls about a pickup driver driving erratically.
In a press conference, Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said that a 50-year-old driver was in custody in connection with the crash, according to the report.
Getting said that all of the victims were adults, though initial reports indicated that some were children.
