EAST MOLINE, Illinois - Governor Bruce Rauner has been traveling state-wide pushing for 2 bills that he said are essential.

"I need to be supportive of all schools and have a fair structure and in order to do that we need a balanced budget," said Governor Bruce Rauner.

East Moline's superintendent along with 14 others don't agree, they sent a letter pointing out the problems with current school funding, stating that it's 'punishing low-income students, instead of supporting them.'

"There are 24 school districts in the state of Illinois that are over 90% poverty, under his formula that he proposed 22 of those districts would get no more money," said Superintendent Kristin Humphries.

Governor Rauner said he agrees but puts the blame on others.

"I don`t like it, I`m willing to change it, the democrats and speaker Madigan has not shown much interest in changing the school funding formula," said Governor Rauner.

The 15 school districts represented on the letter aren't buying it.

"Leadership, we want individuals to sit down at the table, we don`t want to see a stop gap budget, the state of Illinois can`t take this any longer," said Humphries.

Humphries said those districts will continue to fight until something is changed.

"It`s not for East Moline students, it`s not for students in Vandalia, or students in Chicago, Rockford or Pana, this is for students everywhere," said Humphries.
