MOLINE, Illinois — The Moline Conservation Club and Crimestoppers of the Quad Cities teamed up today to sponsor the Annual Fishing Rodeo where kids got to fish for free at Riverside Pond in hopes of winning a prize.
The Moline Conservation Club has held a fishing rodeo for nearly six decades and organizers say it's all a way to teach kids about the environment.
"We wanna get the kids out here with their families, and if they start enjoying our natural resources now as a child, they're more likely to be able to protect them when they're older," said Amy Tafoya with the club.
Yesterday, organizers tagged and released 'Billy Bad Bass' and some of his henchmen into the pond. Kids who caught Billy or one of his fellow fish could turn them into police in exchange for prizes - including a new bike.
