A Silvis, Illinois man has been accused of sexually abusing a teen.

Police said an investigation that started in early May 2016 led to the arrest of 41-year-old David Chad Ash.  Ash was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a statement from the East Moline Police Department.

"Ash is accused of committing an act of sexual conduct with a female teen who was between the ages of 13 and 17 years old," read the police statement.

The investigation started when police got wind of "suspicious text messages" and from there police found out that Ash had contact with the teen in East Moline, the statement said.

Ash was arrested on Thursday, June 2, 2016, police said.  He was held in the Rock Island County jail on $100,000 bond.

Police said Ash had previously been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 1995 and again in 2000.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Office and the East Moline Police Department helped with the investigation.
