Business owner not sure business can survive without Exelon

CORDOVA, Illinois - A local business owner says he's worried his business will have to shut down. He says once the Exelon employees go, doesn't know where his customers will come from.

Shawn  Sivels opened Mr. Blues BBQ four months ago in Cordova. While it's been hard getting the word out about his new business, he says he's had a steady flow of regular customers.

"It's a lot of people you know, its right down the street for them, you know to come and get something to eat," said Sivels.

Right down the street from his business is the Exelon nuclear plant.

Shivel says the Exelon employees come to his place to eat on their lunch breaks.

However bad news came. Exelon announced it would be closing two plants. One of them being the Cordova plant, which would close in 2018.

The decision comes after lawmakers weren't able to pass an energy bill that would have provided Exelon with subsidies.

Sivels is now left wondering the future of his business, "I hope thats what they`re working on to keep it open, I mean thats how we`re going to survive here."
