EAST MOLINE, Illinois — Local police officers are being hailed for a big act of kindness after helping an elderly man who was stranded in the Quad Cities while headed to Texas.

On Friday, May 27, a man with a cane came to East Moline Police Department looking for help. Officers made sure he had a place to sleep for the night, a bus ticket, plus food and other necessities for his trip to Texas.

"I'm proud of the officers on second shift, because this wasn't my (idea), this was their idea. They came to me and said, 'This is something we need to do,' and I'm like OK, let's make it happen. So we did," said Lt. Luke Blaser with the department.

Officers say this kind of thing usually happens late in the night when resources are at a minimum.

There's no word if the man made it to Texas safely.
