MOLINE, Illinois — A tentative agreement has been made between the Laborers' Local Union 309 union and Quad City area contracting companies. The two and a half hour negotiation over wages took place this afternoon.

Work was completely halted for five days because the Laborers' 309 strike at dozens of construction zones throughout the Quad Cities.

Steve Tondi is President and CEO of the Quad City Builders, he said the negotiation was intelligent and peaceful. Tondi believes a fair offer and good settlement was reached. He added that there are no winners during a strike. Laborers only get paid when they are working and the strike halted work for a total of five days.

The people with vested interest in the area's construction projects feel the implications of a strike.

"I don't know how much the community cares, but those owners that are trying to build something care at the time and the contractors that are trying to build it for them care at the time," Tondi said.

Work resumed at nearly 40 commercial construction sites on Friday afternoon, prior to Tuesday's negotiation. The Laborers' will share information from the negotiation with its members before officially ratifying a new contract.
