ELDRIDGE,Iowa-- Volunteers and vendors dressed in pioneer period clothes to give people a taste of life in the 1860s, Sunday May 29.

Organizer Wayne Gay says,  Heritage Days is more than just a fun event, it's also a good way to learn about the history of the area.

"The (settlers) moved in here in 1860 and they ran a blacksmith shop until 1955. We want to bring them back to those easier days and easier time periods,  where's there no cell phones or telephones. The closest thing you can get to a telephone was in town or telegram office," he says.

The day also included a Wild West shootout skit and music from the Kickapoo American Indian Tribe.

The event continues Memorial Day from 11 am to 5 pm.
