The “100 Deadliest Days” for drivers are between Memorial Day and Labor Day, according to travel organization AAA.
Between these two holidays, AAA says deadly teen crashes have historically climbed.
In 2013, about 220 teen drivers and passengers died in crashes during each summer month – this is a 43% increase from the rest of the year. This statistic was found based on a AAA analysis of the government’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
AAA reported that throughout 2013, there were 371,645 people injured and 2,927 people killed in crashes that involved a teen driver.
“Since teens drive more during the summer than any other season, this insight is a timely reminder to everyone—drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists— to be mindful when sharing the roads with young drivers,” said Peter Kissinger, President and CEO of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
