DAVENPORT, Iowa--More than 86 war veterans  were invited to be honored with Quilts of Valor at Davenport's Masonic Center on Sunday, May 22.

Terry Austin is the event coordination for the local Quilts of Valor chapter in the Quad Cities. She  says the quilts serve as a symbol of appreciation to the veterans currently serving and who have served in years past.

They also serve as a reminder of the strong bond between all service men and women.

" There is a bond that's with them and I'm from a military family so because of that, it's in my heart. So there's a commodore between all of them," she says.

At least 30 local volunteers worked to make each quilt so that each one is as unique as the stories of each veteran.

The Quilts of Valor foundation started in 2003, after the founder-- a mother of a veteran used a quilt to comfort her son after he came home from the war in Iraq.
