ROCK FALLS, Illinois – A Rock Falls police officer made her first court appearance since she was charged with theft and official misconduct.
Veronica Jaramillo, 43, was taken into custody Tuesday, May 17, 2016, after she was charged with one count of theft and one count of official misconduct. Jaramillo was placed on administrative leave that same day, according to Rock Falls Police Chief Tammy Nelson.
Jaramillo’s arrest followed an investigation by Illinois State Police, Nelson said. The circumstances that led to her arrest were not yet released.
Jaramillo appeared with her attorney in Whiteside County Court for arraignment on the charges Thursday, May 19. Her bond was set at $100,000 during that hearing; 10% must be posted before she would be eligible for release, according to court records.
Nelson previously said it did not appear that any investigations or arrests handled by Jaramillo would be impacted by her arrest, but that any matters in which she was the lead investigator would be reviewed and reassigned. Jaramillo has been with the Rock Falls Police Department since 2009, and was promoted to sergeant in 2014.
Jail records showed Jaramillo remained held in the Lee County, Illinois Jail. Her next court appearance was set for 1 p.m. June 6.
