SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Department of Agriculture is asking farmers and agrichemical facilities to turn in their empty pesticide containers to be recycled.

The containers will be used to make shipping pallets, fence posts, drainage tubing, plastic lumber and other items.

They can be dropped off at sites around the state beginning at the end of July and continuing throughout August.

Participants must rinse and dry containers and remove caps, labels, booklets and foil seals.

Information on collection sites can be found on the department’s website.
