Summer school canceled in Galesburg due to Illinois’ budget uncertainty

Community Unit School District No. 205 announced that summer school for grades K-5 has been cancelled for 2016-2017.

GALESBURG, Illinois -- Community Unit School District No. 205 announced that summer school for grades K-5 has been cancelled for 2016-2017.

A handful of programs will still be offered, reads a letter from the district, according to Galesburg.com. Apex Credit Recovery and Drivers Education classes will be held from May 23rd through June 10; eligible students have been notified.

Also, extended school year classes are available for special education students. Eligible students will be notified by his or her teacher.

"Due to budget constraints and the uncertainty of a State budget to fund schools for 2016-2017, the District will not be offering summer school programs for grades K-5 this year," the letter said.
