A fire broke out at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, Illinois when a heat gun being used to remove paint caught fire.

A maintenance worker was removing paint from the decking area of the funeral home when the fire started, according to the Moline Fire Department's chief.  It happened around 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Firefighters arrived on scene quickly and put the fire out within about 15 to 20 minutes, the chief said.   Fire had spread onto the roofing area, which crews had to rip apart to put the fire out.

The inside sustained some smoke damage, but mostly the decking area was affected by the fire, according to the chief.

There were people inside the funeral home at the time of the fire, but they reportedly were able to get out easily.

One firefighter did receive treatment for an ailment that was likely smoke related.

It was expected that the funeral home would be back up and running in a few days.

Wendt Funeral Home is located near 18th Avenue and 15th Street Place.
