Do you have a relative, a friend or a co-worker who is having an impact in your local community? In every neighborhood, there are “Unsung Heroes” – volunteers and paid professionals who go well beyond their expected duties.

WQAD News 8 and Genesis Health System are proud to partner locally with the Jefferson Awards.

Founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard, the Jefferson Awards National Ceremonies are the country’s longest standing and most prestigious celebration of public service. By celebrating their outstanding service, we are amplifying their solutions for others to apply in their own communities.  In fact in 2002, local activist Chad Pregracke was honored with this award.

From May 2016 – February 2017, we will select 8 local semi-finalists and highlight him or her on our news.

In the spring 2016, we will choose one finalist from the 8 to represent our area at the national awards in Washington D.C. in June 2017.  The finalist chosen will receive a trip to Washington DC to the awards ceremony.

The nomination process is simple.
