HILLSDALE, Illinois — The body pulled out of the Rock River in Hillsdale early Monday afternoon, May 9, has been identified as Charles Schoaf of Morrison, Illinois.

Schoaf, 70, was last seen by his family on Saturday evening, December 26, 2015. Hours after he was reported missing, his vehicle was found along Illinois Route 92 in Henry County, just east of the Rock River Bridge.

Carlie Schoaf, his daughter, said her father was acting just fine during Christmas celebrations. That was the last time she saw her father.

In January, Carlie reported that her dad is a proud Vietnam veteran and a retired state highway worker, but most importantly, a beloved father and grandfather.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson confirmed Schoaf’s identity with WQAD News 8 on Sunday, May 15. Gustafson believes the cause of death was drowning.

Shortly after he was reported missing, Schoaf’s family started a Facebook page where people could leave tips, well wishes and memories. Sunday morning, the family thanked the community for their support.
