MOLINE,Illinois--It's not easy being a mail carrier, but when you've been on the job for the last 15 years like Kristina Nyman, you find joy in the little things.

So the day of the"Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, May 14, is one of her favorite days to go to go to work.

" You get to have your family and friends come out and help you and realize how challenging the job is, " she says.

In addition to making sure her customers get their mail on time, Nyman and her step daughter, Taylor Cherveny are collecting food donations left in the yellow plastic bags she delivered to them last week last week.

Nyman and her step daughter are one of many groups of mail carriers and volunteers collecting food and bringing it back to their local post office.

Volunteers there worked to collect more than 100,000 pounds of food in one day.

It's a goal Kristina and Taylor are more than happy to help achieve, but they also get a little extra from their hard day's work, more time together.

Sunday morning, the group announced they were able to collect nearly 90,000 pounds of food and the national totals will be available later in the week. The group will continue to collect food until Wednesday, as boxes of food continue to pour in after the food drive.
