EAST MOLINE, Illinois-- United Township high school gets about $3 million in state funding each year.

But with the Illinois budget still at a stalemate, Superintendent Jay Morrow says it's only a matter of time before Illinois schools like his will have to figure out a plan to pay for next year by themselves.

" Our fiscal year starts July 1 so in less than a month and a half we'll have to start a new fiscal year which we depend on state money and if that budget isn't passed by the first of June and signed by the governor we're really all in limbo," he says.

United Township Board of Education has decided that the best way to keep things financially up and running is to dip into their reserves, funds they've been saving for years.

It's enough to get them through next school year but after that the school will just have to wait.

" Its really a waiting game right now. and just putting our ducks in a row. Every school district is doing that. Trying to figure out if there's no state budget how we'll get by for next year," says Morrow.

Rock Island School District also plans to use reserve funds if they need to, however that's only enough savings to get through half their academic year.
