ONEIDA, Illinois – Classes for all students in the ROWVA School District were cancelled for Wednesday, May 11, 2016, after a bomb threat there.

“On Monday (May 9) we found a note at ROWVA High School warning us of a bomb threat for Wednesday afternoon,” said a statement issued Tuesday, May 10, from Superintendent Joe Sornberger.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies and district administrators searched school grounds and found nothing inside or outside of the buildings.  Checkpoints were established at building entrances Tuesday, and deputies were at both schools.

“At this point, the investigation regarding the note continues, but the safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we take all threats seriously,” Sornberger’s statement said.

Classes were cancelled for Wednesday, May 11.  Students and staff will make up the day May 20, pushing the last day of school one day later than originally planned.

“We will also continue to take security precautions to help ensure the safety of our students and staff,” the statement said.

Anyone with information about the threat was asked to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
