A hospitalized man who claimed his wound was caused by someone who shot at him in his own garage is now facing weapon and drug charges.
Jason Corbett went to the ER with a graze wound on his stomach around 1:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 28, 2016, according to a statement from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Before a doctor could see him, Corbett decided he wanted to leave and he refused further treatment.
Deputies responded to the hospital as well as Corbett’s Yates City, Illinois home on East Maple Street where the incident reportedly happened, police said.
According to the statement, Corbett said he had been in his garage when he was shot. Corbett said he then returned fire with his hand gun, thinking he may have hit one of the people who reportedly shot him.
“Some of the statements provided by Jason Corbett appeared inconsistent with the evidence as it pertains to the shooting,” read the statement.
Police searched his home, which led to Corbett being charged with the following: possession of psilocybin mushrooms, reckless discharge of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of weapons for items found on Corbett and in his home, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
